On August 26, 2026, a trilateral meeting was held between Alexander Vataman, Plenipotentiary Representative of the Republic of Abkhazia to the Pridnestrovian Moldavian Republic; Dmitry Sorokin, Colonel, Senior Military Commander of the Russian Federation Peacekeeping Forces; and Vitaly Yankovsky, Head of the Official Representation of the Republic of South Ossetia to the Pridnestrovian Moldavian Republic.

During the meeting, timed to coincide with the 18-th anniversary of the international recognition of the independence of the Republic of Abkhazia and the Republic of South Ossetia, Alexander Vataman and Vitaly Yankovsky expressed gratitude to Dmitry Sorokin and the Russian military personnel who carried out the peacekeeping mission in Abkhazia and South Ossetia for their contribution to maintaining of peace and security in the region.

The consistent role of the Russian Federation in ensuring peace and stability was particularly noted, as was the significance of the Russian leadership's decisions to recognize the independence of the Republic of Abkhazia and the Republic of South Ossetia on August 26, 2008.

Alexander Vataman and Vitaly Yankovsky expressed gratitude to the Russian side for its support and cooperation across a wide range of areas.

In turn, Colonel Dmitry Sorokin briefed the meeting participants on the current activities of the Russian military contingent in Transnistria, as well as the situation in the Security Zone.

The meeting participants exchanged views on regional security and peacekeeping activities.
